Lemon Thyme Loaf Cake

I know, I know. Citrus season is quickly waning and I’m a little late to the full spectacle that is blood oranges and Meyer lemons in their hay of their day, but there’s just something about spring that makes me crave citrusy flavors! (Side note: I did consume an unacceptably large amount of blood oranges between the months of January and February. Ob-sessed.)

Hazelnut Cacao Granola

Some days are notably better than others, while some are notably worse than others. Last week I had one those “worse than others” days. I am a newlywed with a full-time job that I absolutely adore running operations for a local specialty coffee roasting company (yes, I’m one of those coffee people) while simultaneously being a full-time student at university (UNT in Denton) working toward my business degree where I’m required to maintain a 3.7 or higher GPA throughout my entire educational career, no big deal, no stress. Not only am I super busy, which is something I actually enjoy most of the time, but my commuting is absolutely crazy between work, school and “home”. One of these days I may just let Jesus take the wheel.

Smoky Chili Cobbler

Growning up in a Texas home we were raised on chili during the colder months of the year. There was nothing like coming home after school or any number of practices to see that there was a piping-hot homemade pot of chili sitting on the stove with some fresh cornbread muffins waiting to be devoured. We had the extras on the side so we could make our own bowls, especially since we had some picky eaters in the family (*cough* my sister *cough*).

Ultra-Plush Johnny Cakes

Although I don’t know where the name “Johnny Cakes” comes from or if there were even a Johnny involved I do know that I’ve been testing out king-sized beds and pillows so I can get some king-sized Zzzzzs at night. Me + a 6’3″ tall husband on a queen bed = no good. Through the trial I’ve found out I don’t like my mattresses plush but rather my pancakes. My lack of sleep always leaves me ready to just spring out of bed and make my way to the kitchen for breakfast.

Go-To French Toast

Summer is winding down which means we’re enjoying the last of our late morning patio brunches and sun-filled mornings enjoying all of the sugary breads the world has to offer us and these days it seems like every day there’s a new delicious offering to try. But a definitely heavy hitter, french toast, will never be replaced and will always be a super solid go-to option. This a favorite of kids and fancy elites alike, so basically french toast unites us all. It’s also a beautiful blank canvas to create on although just some pure maple syrup on top will give you all of the feel good memories your little heart can handle.

Brioche? Bri-almost.

Carbs are an essential part of my life as a breakfast lover. These can include potatoes and grits but mostly consists of pancakes, biscuits, toasts of all sorts, shapes and colors, muffins English and American, scones and almost infinitely more breads.  I really wanted to stretch myself for the upcoming weekend and impending brunch and make my own brioche….or something close to it.

Skillet Toast with Whipped Yogurt + Fruit

Getting married is easy, it’s the wedding that’s difficult. After an uncommonly short engagement of just a couple of months – which was also the amount of time I had to plan a small wedding – we are back from our Oregoneon honeymoon (sadly). That being said all of my time and attention has been tied up with packing, moving, unpacking, wedding planning, wedding having, traveling, honeymooning and readjusting to life. Even then, a girl has got to eat and this girl will always start with her favorite meal of the day, breakfast!
